NEM Foundation to Develop Blockchain-Powered Copyright System for Journalists
On January 5, Cointelegraph reported the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NEM Foundation in Argentina and CISPREN, a local trade union of journalists. The agreement indicates copyright protection through the development of a blockchain-powered solution.
CISPREN, the trade union of journalists in the city of Cordoba, Central Argentina, also signed a memorandum that entails the development of a Proof-of-Concept for the project. It believes that blockchain can be the solution to various issues related to the security of intellectual property rights.
German Guismondi, CISPREN Press Secretary, told Cointelegraph that authors will be able to transfer their content to blockchain, with a timestamp that will serve as proof of authenticity. Each content will have a distinct QR code and a digital signature in order to fully safeguard authors in case of discord.
Blockchain is now being utilized in journalism, often as a tool for copyright and content management. An example would be Forbes’ partnership with blockchain-based platform Civil, publishing content on the latter’s decentralized network. In this collaboration, media outlets prepare to implement decentralized technologies in all content, and simultaneously permitting writers to post articles.
Civil also secured a partnership with Associated Press (AP) last August to allow traceability usage of its content through blockchain. AP was intent to make use of the technology in securing and protecting the rights, as well as in supporting on ethical journalism.
